Humans are unpredictable, spatial interaction is complex, our experiment is simple.
The city spreads out before you. Rushing from point to point, lit by the slow strobe of fluorescent cars in dark streets. Stumbling into situations for a stranger's signature. Fleeing unknown pursuers, breathing hard, admiring the landscape and the multitude of worlds hidden in it...
Let's hit the streets to see what happens when two strangers meet on the street?! Talk about life's big questions, dreams, wishes? Try to find out the particular location, the forgoten legend, the darkest street in the city. Try to research the city, find out some secret places, discover interesting stories, famous locals. We will test some street games, we'll make some urban experiments, to see, how total strangers can find out their commons. We will design secret, unknown, unpredictable »checkpoints«. The final product will be a race during the night through Veliko Tarnovo's streets, inspired by the urban game »Journey to the end of the night«.
For one night, you’ll drop your workshop and leisure (party) activities, and all your usual motives for dancing movement and action, and let yourself be drawn by the attractions of the chase and the encounters you find there. Get involved in a mad dash through the dark city. Try to make it to all checkpoints as fast as you can, while avoiding being caught by chasers. Those who are caught will become chasers themselves, rising to pursue their former friends and allies. No skates, no bikes, no cars — just your feet (and public transport). Participants create a route to send the pursuit through a variety of neighborhoods with a variety of atmospheres, and they also create checkpoints that are strange, fun, and welcoming.
Am I too old / too serious / too architect / too tired to play? Cat & Mouse is not a competition of youth and strength, but a game to test yourself (and your friends) against the city. This is liberty through genuinely free, self-conscious, authentic play. Spread the Word! Bring your friends, your enemies - anyone you know (or don't really know), especially those that you think you can outrun. Keep your eyes open. Anyone could be a cat or a mouse.
... are simple: you come to a checkpoint that will be announced on the day of the journey (somewhere in Veliko Tarnovo), you get a blue ribbon and a map from us with six checkpoints. Now you have to run trough all of them, meet strange people, be on time and... avoid the dangerous chasers with red ribbons hiding in the night and multiplying every minute. It is expected that only 20% of runners get to the end - and anyone can be the lucky one. Don't worry, you do not need to be a marathon runner to do it. You basically do not even need great running shoes. You need luck, intuition and eyes wide open, help as well as good cooperation among the participants.
Competitors race by foot around an urban area with a visible colored ribbon. Along the way, groups of chasers attempt to tag them, and if they are successful, they remove the competitor's ribbon. Competitors can also seek refuge in designated safe zones. The first competitor to get to all designated checkpoints in order wins.
Urban Games forced us that we are active outdoors, even if we are not just sports fans. Compel us to interact with the environment, which we know or imagine that it. However, it is also important that such games allow us to establish ties with the places where we are, and we are forced to meet new people when we need them to talk, to get to play important information, or when we need to work together to successfully complete the tasks . All of this indicates to us again sociability and reveals how an important element of our lives and achieving cooperation. "
