The Summer School will involve students and young professionals working together on the Versilia area, from the mountains to the sea, for a ten-days full immersion teamwork. Special attention will be paid to public spaces, where the shared collective values of the urbs had formed. Those spaces actually show a deep formal and substantial crisis of identity and it is necessary to give a solution to these problems.

The case study is the Versilia historical area lapped by the Versilia river: a unique district from the peaks of the Apuan Alps to the sea, governed by the municipalities of Forte dei Marmi, Montignoso, Pietrasanta, Seravezza and Stazzema.
In this territory, in the sixteenth century, Michelangelo opened the "Marble road", that from the Altissimo Mount leads down to the sea along the Alpine valleys, following the course of the Versilia river.
The Summer School will start from the comprehension of the historical evolution of this area; with the help of an international teaching staff, it will aim to define scenery of changes according to different scales, from the territorial to the architectural one.

The methodology that will be applied provides the experimentation of the most innovative tools and the collaboration between the international guests and the local subjects: university, administrations, professionals, associations, enterprises and artists.
The Summer School will include public meetings, important moments of exchange among participants, citizens, professionals and local public administrations.

The objective of the Summer School is the development of hypothesis for the urban regeneration of the spaces through architecture, urban design and arts in order to support their re-appropriation from a physical, social and economic point of view.
Participants will therefore be led to discover the least-known features of the territory in order to identify values and criticisms, for operating the economic, social and cultural "mend" between the Sea and the Mountain.

At the end of the Summer School, the final results will be showed in a public exhibition, at Palazzo Mediceo, in Seravezza.
